Welcome to my personal growing review of Rose ‘ Emma Bridgewater’ (Ausb44a16) from david Austin Roses

After a year of observations, I’m afraid I’m still on the fence with this rose as its performance in 2024 was lacking to say the least

It produced just one singular flush of flowers which lasted to mid June last year and then promptly defoliated itself twice being riddled with black spot mould and mildew

It is a young plant and obviously supplied in Peat free compost it is possible the plant got it
Self stressed

I was so concerned by the quality of my plant I contacted david Austin directly over Christmas who refused to replace it

This season it has woken up and produced a lovely flush of flowers and I’m going continue to revisit it over the coming months

Flowers are produced on upright woody stems absolutely laced with thorns. The flowers tend to nod which gives the impression the plant is thirsty.

Flowers open from tomato red buds to a deep coral salmon pink which fades in time to an antique pink tinged with platinum and grey

The foliage is mid green and once again laced with barbs other than the exquisite changing colour the other nice attribute with this particular variety is the fragrance much stronger than advertised by david Austin it’s Rich fruity packed with citrus and notes of tropical pineapple and mango

based on its performance over the last 12 months I’m going to be rating this one with a 3 out of 10 for disease resistance and will stand by my 9 out of 10 for its fragrance rating
