In 2019, AFR partnered with Umutanguha Finance Company (UFC), the Frankfurt School of Finance, and MTN Rwanda to launch a project that supports the provision of formal and innovative financial services to refugees and host communities. In collaboration with the Ministry in Charge of Emergency Management (MINEMA), Umutanguha Finance Company was enabled to open savings and loan offices dedicated to serving refugees and host communities. These branches have served as a relief to refugees and their host communities, as they can now save their money, take loans to expand their businesses, and no longer travel long distances to access financial services.
