Labour Denies Plan to Protest Police Takeover of Secretariats

The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have suspended their planned protest over continuous police barricade at local government area secretariats in Rivers state.
Chairmen of the labour centres said the decision follows reports of plans by some groups to hijack its ultimatum and cause violence under the guise of being labour members.
The labour leaders alleged that some groups have been sponsored to use the protest as reason to cause crisis in order to justify the demand for a state of emergency.
At a joint press briefing in Port Harcourt, the NLC and TUC distanced themselves from any strike or industrial action to drive home their demands asking police to apprehend anyone who protest in the unions’ name today.
