The secret of the Tube Screamer tone control

Pedal builders might have a more complete explanation on this but for us, players and producers this video should be enough to make sound good any TubeScreamer: The tone control on the Tubescreamer works different to most other guitar pedals, it sounds like a high pass filter. When you move it towards the right it will make the lows less prominent, when you move it completely to the left the sound will be transparent on the lows (and reduce some more highs). That's why some people gets a wrong first impression when they try this pedal with all controls at 12 o'clock that the Tubescreamer's sound has no body.

This is especially useful to know if you like fat and transparent guitar tones or are wanting to add presence and grit to your bass tracks in parallel.
