How to Alloy 22k Gold Using Simple Tools-Learn how to alloy 22k gold with simple tools from pure gold (.9999). This particular 22k gold alloy is specifically chosen for fusibility for techniques like granulation and filigree. Granulation is an ancient technique of attaching decorative gold balls to a piece without using solder, a specialty of our jewelry studio. Although you can use crucibles and more advanced equipment and techniques to alloy gold, I'll demonstrate how a simple charcoal block also works for alloying high karat 22k gold just fine. Some of the most sophisticated ancient jewelry making techniques were made with the simplest of tools and methods and this is a perfect example.
