SoftBank has been heavily criticized by many media networks because its Vision Fund, which is the largest technology focused venture capital fund in the world, has had some high-profile failures including WeWork, the office sharing company.

However, because the Vision Fund is so heavily discussed, many people forget or are unaware of SoftBank’s other valuable pieces. People may wonder is SoftBank a bank? Is it a hedge fund? This video answers the question of what is SoftBank.

We go through SoftBank’s history from its founding’s by Masayoshi Son, the eccentric billionaire, in 1981. We follow Masayoshi’s and Softbank’s journey from 1981 to the present and show the various business in which SoftBank has participated.

We have also provided a sheet with some more information on Softbank including how we calculated its value at the end of the video and some more historical background figures.
