Reopened Egyptian Theatre, Hollywood 2023

A quick visual tour of the newly re-opened restored Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood from the courtyard to the screen.
First opened October 18, 1922, the Egyptian was closed after the Northridge earthquake damaged it in 1994. The theatre reopened in 1998 under the auspices of the American Cinematheque. The covid pandemic closed it on March 12, 2020. Since then, the theatre has been undergoing more restoration and upgrades to its interior and earthquake resistance.
The Egyptian Theatre re-opened November 6, 2023. Gone are some of the 1998 additions...the palm trees in the courtyard, the black metal grating inside, the balcony. The seating capacity is a little over 500 (from 1922 to 1994 the seating held almost 1,300) and the programming is shared by the American Cinematheque and Netflix, the owners of the theatre.
The seats are nicer and the screen is still huge. It is much more comfortable watching a movie from the front row than before.
