Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic disorder that causes #inflammation in the digestive organs and leads to bowel injury.
Worldwide, more than 6.5 million people suffer from #IBD.

No cure exists and not everyone responds well to the available treatments. So, some patients have no option but to undergo surgical removal of affected regions.

In the Algae4IBD project, specialists want to find new solutions for IBD patients using algae. Macroalgae as well as microalgae produce many compounds that could bring health benefits to humans.

In this video, Dr. Dorit Avni, researcher at Migal Israel and coordinator of the Algae4IBD project, talks about IBD, the health potential of #algae and on what solutions her team is working on.
