Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Backpacking: Pictured Rocks Chapel Loop - Backpacking Michigan UP

We head out to do some Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Backpacking. The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Trail features a 10.6 mile looping trail called the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Chapel Loop Trail. On this trail you get to see Chapel Falls, Chapel Rock, Chapel Beach, Grand Portal Point, Mosquito Beach, the Mosquito River and Mosquito Falls. Backcountry campsites are spruced along the trail and a main campground for overnight backpacking and campers is available at the Mosquito campground. A portion of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Trail also intersects with the North Country Trail, with NCT trail blazes visible throughout your hike along Lake Superior. This hike is an excellent opportunity to try backpacking Michigan Upper Peninsula. Permits for overnight backpacking are required, but even as a day hike, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Hiking Trail offers a great sample of what hiking Michigan upper peninsula is about!
