While out exploring a fossil site, I made an unexpected discovery — what appear to be fossilised crab footprints, preserved in rock and dating back around 4 million years! These trace fossils offer a rare glimpse into the behaviour and movement of ancient crabs that once scuttled across a coastal environment during the Pliocene epoch.

In this video, I take you through the moment of discovery, the sediment clues that helped me identify the prints, and my thoughts on what kind of crab might have left them. It's not every day you find such well-preserved trace fossils in the wild — and I'm excited to share this rare find with you.
