The Korean government will push forward with its economic agenda,... that is,... putting utmost priority on creating jobs AND corporate restructuring of financially troubled companies.
Our Kim Hye-sung has the details of a cabinet meeting by Seoul's finance minister, Yoo Il-ho.
Korea's finance minister and Deputy Prime Minister Yoo Il-ho presided over a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday and said the government will continue to focus on creating more jobs.

"All government ministries should prioritize job creation as their basis for managing state affairs."

Yoo said the government must keep close tabs on a set of comprehensive measures that was unveiled last month to boost employment for youth and women.
He also noted that reforming Korea's rigid labor market and promoting the service industry will help foster new industries and new jobs.
In line with this, he said the government would expand performance-based pay to cover 321 state-run companies.

"The government is making the utmost effort to reform the public sector. As part of that, we're pushing ahead with implementing the performance-based wage system at public institutions."

The move is seen as part of the government's stepped up drive to speed up corporate restructuring before troubled industries have no other choice but to get cash injections from the government to survive.
Korea's top economic policymaker also called on all ministries to communicate with the incoming 20th National Assembly so they can effectively carry out the government's reform and economic policies.
