This video includes highlights from an interview with former Rogers Mayor John Sampier recorded in July, 2022 for the Benton County (AR) Oral History Project.
Sampier served as Rogers Mayor from 1981 to 1998 during a time when the population was beginning to grow. Sampier recalls during the 50's the population in Rogers was 5,202.
He says after graduation 1965, many in his classmates expected to move to find jobs, but many move back eventually.
Sampier remembers attending then-new Rogers High School, which had no air conditioning.
He recalls defeating David Swearingen, a life-long friend, in a race for Student Council President at RHS.
This interview is filled with many interesting stories about the school, the city, the community and the county.
