Trog! is a puzzle game and was released by Midway Games in 1990. The original arcade version was done in a claymation style and allowed up to four players to play at the same time. When the game was ported over to the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991, by Acclaim Entertainment, it was scaled down due to hardware limits and ultimately only allowed up to two players to play at the same time.

The game is a puzzle game, similar to Pac-Man. The player plays as a dinosaur that must go around and collect all of the eggs on the screen. As soon as they collect them all, a space will open with the word "Home" on it, being the exit of the level. The entire time they are collecting the eggs, enemies known as "Trogs" appear and attempt to either eat, crush, roll over (with a wheel), cook, club or simply punch the player's dinosaur. There are a number of various other hazards, including lava pits, that also appear and the player can fall off the edges of the level.

Each player starts with two lives and can gain more. They can also get power-ups, such as pepper plants (speed up), pineapples (turns the player essentially invincible, makes them grow huge and be able to eat Trogs), mushrooms (slows the player down, can be useful) and a fire buff that allows the player to shoot fire, roasting the Trogs. There is also an egg that glitters and, when picked up last, spawns a portal that will port the player three levels ahead and gives them a bonus.

The game was fairly unique and is quite addictive, akin to Pac-Man. The levels do repeat and there are a few problems with the game (such as when a player steps on a trampoline and is sent across the map, it causes the player to become 'dizzy' and vulnerable to dying); but overall it's a fantastic game that is worth checking out. A definite addition to any NES library!
