Using a GoPro Hero 5+ Black edition with GPS enabled with RaceRender to make an inexpensive lap timer with telemetry data. Works for auto/car, motorcycle, kart, etc.
I've used GoPro Hero 5 through 7 (black editions) successfully. I tried an 8 but the GPS signal was quite weak. I have not tried a 9.
I recommend setting the date and time from your Bluetooth connected phone via the GoPro app before recording for the day.
I typically use a resolution of 1080p with 60fps. This is a reasonable balance of file size and resolution that's usually adequate for post-ride review.
Enabling GPS on the cameras will consume a lot of battery, I typically get 2, maybe 3 full 20 minute sessions before needing to swap batteries.
I turn the camera(s) on about 5 minutes before I ride in my session, this allows the GPS adequate time to obtain signal from the satellites.
While this is not a substitute for a proper dedicated lap timer or data logger, it is a cost-effective way to capture lap times and basic telemetry data if you already have a GoPro.
