Donald Trump's desire to buy Greenland has brought back memories of the 159-year-old deal between the US and Russia over Alaska. Russia sold Alaska to the United States in 1867, a territory once known as "white gold." While Alaska initially proved to be a source of great wealth for Russia, there came a time when managing it became a major burden for the country.
