The birthplace of modern video games, the dimly lit circus cave of the arcade cabinet. Hundreds of developers got involved in the development and production of arcade video games with the enormous success of Space Invaders. Elements of game franchises such as Space Invaders and Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Frogger and Centipede are still recognized today in popular culture. New entries in the Golden Age video game franchises are released every ten years. Some of the best arcade games of all time came out in the 1990s and one of the biggest and earliest entries was Starblade. Released by Namco, the Japanese company that invented Galaxian, Pac-Man, Pole Position and Dig Dug; and Atari, the company that used Pong to introduce video games to arcades and computers in space and produce asteroids.

Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME) is one of the most ambitious emulator projects of all time and contains tens of thousands of games with different hardware, programming and control settings. Despite legal problems, MAME ensures that future generations can at least play and study these games without having to look at aging cabinets and circuit boards.
