The Old Peake Telegraph Station Ruins are one of the largest and best preserved pastoral homestead ruins, accessible via a public access route (PAR). Taken up as a pastoral lease by Philip Levi in 1859, like many stations in the area it was abandoned because of drought in the 1860s. An Overland Telegraph repeater station and copper mine were both once located at Old Peake, partly because of the good waters from the numerous permanent springs.

Once you leave the Oodnadatta Track to head out to the ruins, it is around 25km each way on one of the worst tracks around on the Oodnadatta Track, it sure would be interesting towing a van or trailer out here, slow going for us without.

For sure one of the BEST ruins you can visit whilst doing the Oodnadatta Track and worth the bumps and rattles to get there and back. Take a hat and sunscreen if you intend to walk to the mine ruins or cemetery and beyond, no shade out there...

Lets not talk about the flies mmmmk....
