Central Phuket welcomes happy festive season and invites you to experience one-of-a-kind ‘Phuket Peranakan Christmas Tree’ with integration of cultural identity from today until 6 January 2025

Phuket – Central Pattana plc, operator of Central Phuket is joining hands with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Phuket Peranakan Association to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece: the ‘Phuket Peranakan Christmas Tree’ under the concept of ‘The Pride of Phuket Thailand’ to mark the landmark for the wonderful year-end festive celebrations that show the pride of the people of Phuket to the world. The launch of the Phuket Peranakan Christmas Tree is also to celebrate Thailand’s registration for Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, with the recognition shared between five countries: Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei – the official announcement will take place in December 2024.

The ‘Phuket Peranakan Christmas Tree’ was inspired by the distinctive fabric patterns of Peranakan culture and consists of swans, a symbol of good fortune and representative of the Baba Peranakan ethnic group; peony, a symbol of wealth and nobility; swallows, a symbol of steadfast love and dignity; and butterflies, a symbol of love and bonding. The snowflakes are inspired by ‘Pin Tang’ pins or brooches, an accessory often seen on Peranakan clothing. The pin is a star-shaped elegant brooch and an important accessory on Baba’s Kebaya clothing. The peak of the Christmas tree is inspired by the ‘Hua Kuan’ or swaying flower crown, a headdress worn by the bride in a traditional Peranakan wedding ceremony.
The base of the Christmas tree is 8 meters in width and the tree is 15 meters in height, and the whole tree is handmade craftwork, where the trunk and ornaments are made of EVA rubber materials, hand-painted by more than 30 Phuket Peranakans and Phuket Rajabhat University students. The tree is placed in the Luxury Zone to add a more distinctive ‘luxury culture’ to Phuket Peranakan.

❄️ Snowflake ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจมาจาก ปิ่นตั้ง เครื่องประดับ ที่มักจะเห็นอยู่ติดกับเสื้อผ้าของชาวภูเก็ต บาบ๋า Peranakan​ สัณฐานเป็นรูปดาวกระจาย เป็นครื่องประดับสำคัญที่ติดอยู่บนชุดแต่งกายเคบายาของชาวบาบ๋า
🎄ยอดของต้นคริสต์มาสมาจากได้แรงบันดาลใจมาจาก “ฮั้วก๋วน” หรือ มงกุฏดอกไม้ไหว เป็นเครื่องประดับศีรษะของเจ้าสาวในพิธีวิวาห์ตามวัฒนธรรมเพอรานากัน
ตัวต้นมีฐานกว้างกว่า 8 เมตร สูง 15 เมตร เป็นงาน Handmade และงาน craft ทั้งตัวต้นรวมถึง Ornaments ทำด้วยแผ่น EVA Rubber หรือแผ่นโฟมยางพารา และเพ้นท์สีด้วยมือทั้งต้น จากฝีมือชาวภูเก็ต และนักศึกษาราชภัฏภูเก็ต กว่า 30 ชีวิต
อีกทั้งเพื่อเป็นการเฉลิมฉลองการได้รับขึ้นทะเบียนมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมที่จับต้องไม่ได้ของมนุษยชาติ จาก UNESCO โดยรางวัลนี้มี 5 ประเทศที่ได้รับรางวัลร่วมกัน ได้แก่ ไทย, มาเลเซีย, สิงคโปร์, อินโดนีเซีย และบรูไน โดยจะประกาศอย่างเป็นทางการในช่วงเดือนธันวาคม 2567 นี้
