How To Use a MIL Reticle | Range Estimation for Long Range Shooting

Описание к видео How To Use a MIL Reticle | Range Estimation for Long Range Shooting

In this video, I explain how to use a MIL reticle to ascertain the range to target using a MIL reticle. This is applicable for long range shooting applications.

For this method to work, the size of the target must be known.

Let's look at the MIL Ranging Formulas.

If you prefer to work in centimeters and meters, use this formula...

Take the Size of the Object and divide it by the Size of the Object in Mils. Then multiply this number by 10 and it will give you the range to target in meters.

If you have the target size in millimeters, or you have converted the target size from centimeters into millimeters, you can use the following formula instead and avoid having to multiply by ten.

Take the size of the object in millimeters, divide it by the size of the object in Mils. This will give you the range to target in meters.

If you are using a MIL reticle but prefer to work in inches and yards, let's look at an alternative formula.

Take the Size of the Object in inches, divide it by the size of the object in Mils, then multiply this number by 27.77. This will give you the range to target in yards.

Let’s quickly run through an example of each, whereby, in this scenario the target measures 183 centimeters tall (i.e., 72 inches) and measures 2.8 MIL in the reticle.

Using Centimeters...

183 divided by 2.8 multiplied by 10 equals 653 meters.

Using Millimeters…

1,830 divided by 2.8 equals 653 meters.

Or finally, using Inches and Yards…

72 divided by 2.8 multiplied by 27.77 equals 714 yards.

Not too challenging was it?

You now know how to estimate range using a MIL reticle.

As with anything, the more you practice this, the better, and faster you will get at it.
