A few kilometres west of Walensee Bergsboden motorway stop on the Swiss A3 one arrives at Walensee. The journey along the banks of the lake is largely through tunnels meaning that one misses the views of the lake and the Churfirsten range of mountains. The Walensee stop has none of the facilities of Walensee Bergsboden, it is a car park - literally. There was not much room for the motorhome and I stayed only long enough to photograph and film the place.

However what this stop offers is a magnificent waterfall which although at a distance, can be clearly made out in this film. How I would have liked to have been on the northern side of the lake to have witnessed t close up.

The Churfirsten range reaches 2,306 m above sea level whilst the lake below is 419 metres. The mountains are a limestone ridge, the individual peaks were formed by erosion and fall dramatically to the lake as can be seen in this film.

This dramatic scenery encouraged the Hungarian composer Franz Liszt to write a solo piano piece called Au lac de Wallenstadt when he visited in the 1830s. In my case, it encouraged me to film and write this small description of it!
