Tbh, I'm a little disappointed with how Aegon was portrayed in the first season. They showed us reimagined, "improved" versions of Rhaenyra, Alicent, Aemond and others, but Aegon was portrayed as a complete asshole. The writers insisted that the chronicle was not to be trusted, because it was written biased, nevertheless, they collected all the dirty rumors about Aegon that Mushroom could ever come up with...

Important: I DO NOT JUSTIFY AEGON. But I feel a bit sorry for the green team. Let them be villains, I don't mind. But I want to see competent, smart, cunning, confident villains, not pathetic ones.
