No one tells you how much dedication and preservation you need to have a special needs kid! How many extra tasks it is & how hard you have to push to get the basics! We're not asking for extraordinary things, we're asking for the fundamentals.

For instance, just asked the CLTSW for a Tomato Chair, something we have been getting every few years for stability and seating at the dinner table or wherever he needs to be seated & stable to not fall over. Id call that a BASIC NEED! Example: Like a baby needs a highchair!

So either you have to make an appt for a DME place (when they have availability during business hours) go to the appt, get the measurements and then go back for the 2nd appt when the item comes in. Who has time for all that??!! Otherwise you have to bug your school PT or outpatient PT if you see them regularly (which we do) by email or phone or chart message for a referral letter for the item. Their busy people too with appts all day long. Then after all that they/you send that updated letter to the case worker to get the item. Mind you this process much simpler because we know off hand that insurance doesn't cover this particular item! Thankfully we are approved forr CLTSW. But still have to jump through hoops for some items.

The fact they cannot take my word for the need as my child has outgrown their current seat is beyond me. Plus they will only pay for the 1. So if you like to keep one in the car for when your out and about or go to someone's house or a restaurant..... or your kid has babysitters who take them after school or days off they expect you to pay out of pocket for an extra or lug that big chair around everywhere you go ALONG with all the other medical things your kid already takes with them every day!

This is so sad!
