In this video, we’ll explore some lesser-known yet significant threats to kidney health, including certain painkillers, antibiotics, and even medical tests, that can accelerate kidney failure.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗞𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆𝘀

𝟭. 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀

Pain relief medicines like NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) are easily available and often overused. While they might help with body pain, they can be dangerous for your kidneys, especially if you're already dealing with kidney issues. Common examples like Diclofenac and Nimesulide can worsen kidney function if taken frequently or without medical advice.

𝟮. 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀

Some antibiotics, especially those with names ending in “-cin” like Amikacin or Doxorubicin, can be harmful to your kidneys. These medicines should only be taken when absolutely necessary and under a doctor’s close supervision, particularly if you have any kidney concerns.

𝟯. 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀

Certain tests and procedures can unintentionally hurt your kidneys. For example, the DTPA renal scan, often used to measure GFR, uses a radioactive iodine substance that can be toxic to the kidneys. It should not be done more than once every six months. Similarly, tests like angiography, angioplasty, and ureteral stenting use contrast dyes that may burden already weakened kidneys.
