1974 Norton Commando 850 MK2A – Modified Exhaust Nut Spanner / Wrench review

After refitting the exhaust pipes and mufflers, I used a modified BMW Motorcycle Airhead Exhaust Nut Wrench from San Jose BMW to tighten the nuts.

The standard 'C' Spanner works okay, but I thought that this BMW wrench was a much better tool for the money. It was $29.95 with free shipping from eBay. Unfortunately it didn’t fit right out of the box but I realized that the balance pipe and most likely the exhaust nuts on my MK2A may be different to other earlier models.

But for the price, I thought I would take a chance and try to modify the tool by cutting off the end ‘teeth’ from each side of the wrench as well as cut away one of the middle teeth to enable the tool to fit over the larger block tooth on the exhaust nut. It worked great!
