ODEON simulates acoustics by combining customized versions of classical methods, such as ray tracing and the image source method. It identifies different types of reflections, such as early vs. late and specular vs. scattered, and based on this classification, different methods are applied.

Early specular reflections are calculated with the image source method, which is made more efficient by combining it with ray tracing. Early scattering is calculated by generating secondary sources on surfaces visible from the source. Finally, late scattering is calculated with ray tracing that generates more secondary sources, which are checked for visibility from different receivers.

ODEON is a software for simulation and measurements of room acoustics, and is the preferred software by acoustic engineers and architectural consultancy firms. You can model sound sources ranging from point sources with directivities to large industrial machines, visualize acoustics with ray tracing, billiard balls, and color grids, and even listen to the simulated acoustics in your room with auralisations. ODEON is the optimum acoustic design tool when working with concert hall and auditorium acoustics, industrial and restaurant noise, and PA system design. The video tutorials in this channel will explain the basics of room acoustics analysis using ODEON.
