Описание к видео Famous Graves: The Grave of Hound Dog Taylor, Blues Musician

Theodore Roosevelt "Hound Dog" Taylor (04/12/1915 - 12/17/1975) was a Chicago Blues musician. He was born in Natchez, Mississippi to Robert Taylor and Della Herron. Taylor's birth year is disputed as he may have been born in 1917. His first instrument wasn't the guitar, but the piano. Taylor was also born with 6 fingers on each hand, but the 6th one was useless.

Before Taylor came to Chicago, Illinois, he frequently played with Elmore James and Sonny Boy Williamson around Tchula, Mississippi. By 1942, he had settled in Chicago. Like many of the local musicians, he honed his skills at local bars and at Maxwell Street. If it were not for Bruce Iglauer, founder of Alligator Records, Taylor would likely have remained a mythical footnote in the history of The Blues.

Iglauer tried to convince Bob Koester, the owner of Delmark Records and the Jazz Record Mart, to sign Taylor after seeing him perform at Florence's Lounge but was unsuccessful. He then started the now famous Alligator Records label, with the self-titled "Hound Dog Taylor And The Houserockers being the label's first release in 1971.

Taylor wound up releasing 1 more album on Alligator while he was alive. The third, a live album titled "Beware Of The Dog" was released posthumously shortly after his death in 1975 from lung cancer. He lays in eternal rest at Restvale Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois.
