Since 2008, Diesel engines from the Volkswagen Audi Group have used a common rail injection system, with a mechanical layout that remains largely unchanged across many models. Unfortunately, repeated timing belt and engine failures have been reported on some of these engines as a common occurrence.

At VACC MotorTech, we have received many reports of serpentine belts shredding and winding themselves between the crankshaft pully and timing covers. These belt fragments will cause the timing belt to skip teeth, break, and result in costly engine damage.

If a timing belt failure has occurred and caused engine damage, it may seem like a new serpentine belt, timing belt and potentially cylinder head will be all that is required, however, there are many other recommended parts that should be looked at to ensure a reliable repair, and if skipped could see the vehicle back in your workshop with the same reoccurring failure.
