Wrap dresses are so versatile that you can wear them as a shrug, kurti, gown, maxi dress or even as a night dress. You can use a saree or fabric whatever you prefer for making wrap dresses.
Cutting and stitching of wrap around dress or maxi dress or gown is very well explained in this video step by step

For this I have taken 3 mt fabric whose width is 60".
This wrap dress tutorial is made without any pattern so you have to cut front and back separately.
Upper bodice is made with the basic body measurement and is very easy to cut and stitch. The bottom part is pleated.

Tricks to make same and equal pleats is also very well explained with each and every small detail
