Our 24 Hour Family Sabbath // Family of Six (Winter 2023)

Taking a 24 hour Sabbath has become a very integral part of our family culture. We started this the very first Saturday of 2022. So many people are interested about how we have a rest day with children. This video is specifically about what we do in the winter. Part of having a Sabbath is resting that God has it all under control. We can stop our work. We can stop the ever constant motion in our lives. We can say enough is enough and enjoy resting.

Our Sabbath begins when we conduct the ceremonious procedure of unplugging the internet from our home. We are being a little facetious when we say that, but it really is a significant symbol of rest for us. When we unplug the WiFi, we know that work is done. The kids even know that we are disconnected from so many things that bring outside stress and distractions into our home. This has been very crucial to truly bringing rest to our family.

A characteristic of us taking a consistent Sabbath has brought a lot of humility to us. It is so humbling to truly stop and reflect on everything the Lord has provided for us. When we fail to do that, we become such ungrateful people, only looking to our needs and wants. When we stop and think about His goodness, it brings us to a place of worship, gratitude and humility.
