Schaeffler’s electric axle technology and solid-state batteries were a big part of it’s ACT Expo display, this year. The e-axles are designed for Class 6-8, with modular motor setups, optional two-speed gearing, and precision bearings to help improve efficiency. Schaeffler says even diesel trucks could see fuel savings with the right axle configuration.

We got a closer look at Schaeffler’s Dynamic Performance Vehicle, a demo platform that combines a generator-powered battery system with electric drive units and integrated axles. But the big news comes from batteries that are new to the trucking world.

Thomas Heck, Head of Battery Assembly and Key Account Management, gave us a look at the solid-state batteries that Schaeffler is working on. He said it has the potential to be safer and pack more of a punch ... but there are unique engineering hurdles to get over, first.
