Hello, my name is Jesus Olivares; I'm the commercial specialist here at bound insurance. Today I'm going to teach you how to register your business with the Texas Department of Transportation. If you operate a vehicle next to 26 Thousand pounds, move household goods, transport hazardous materials, or in excess of 15 passengers then you need to register with the Texas department of transportation, but before we get started with TXDOT, we need to take care of the US department of transportation because the TXDOT wont process anything until you have a US DOT number, so we are going to work on USDOT first.

So the first thing we need to do is go to: www.fmcsa.dot.got, and then you have to go to "request pin" that is going to take you to request a US DOT number or DOCT pin and then you click right here.

So this is the screen where we get started, they are going to ask a few questions, and I am going to try and simplify it as much as I can. Click right here, and then click the "continue" button at the bottom of the page. So now we get other questions here, some of it may not apply to you. We are going to go straight to B, and in this case we are in Texas, and they we are being asked if you are "For Hire" or "Private". For hire means you transport goods on behalf of somebody else, so we are going to assume that you are "for hire". The next question is are you interstate or intrastate, Interstate means you cross state lines while Intrastate means that you stay within the state of Texas, so in this case we are going to assume that you only stay in Texas and we will click Intrastate. Hazardous Material we are going to say it's Not Applicable or that you don't carry them. And then we will go to question H, and we will pick the type of vehicle that applies to your business and then we go to continue.

So, when we get to this screen, you have your registration tracking number. After this we go to "file electronically".
This screen is where you type in a credit card number, they won't charge the credit card but a few cents only to verify your identity, it counts as a signature, so that you don't have to sign anything. You type that in, submit and it will bring up a different page with a few more common questions like address and name and so on. Once you are done with that, you get a US DOT number and you are ready to move on to the TX DOT.
