It’s hard to work in healthcare and know how to ethically navigate insurance. Everyone I know wants to be accessible. Everyone I know wants to be paid for their work. Most people I know with insurance never get to their benefits bc they’re paying on their deductible all year long.
Some of us have insurance companies in our areas that aren’t awful to work with. That’s great!
Some of us opt out of dealing with the insurance industry.
It’s ok if you don’t like what someone else has chosen for their business. It’s their business after all.
I think we all agree that healthcare in the US is a mess. We don’t always agree on how to manage that as individuals. And we have to be careful about being self-righteous. There’s no certain right path or I’m pretty sure we’d have figured it out by now.
Can we practice something? Let’s share what we’ve chosen in the comments and let’s practice not shaming each other for it. We all know the trips anyway: if you don’t take insurance you apparently don’t care about people, only money. If you do take insurance you apparently don’t value yourself, your skills, your time. 🙄🙄
Aren’t we all actually trained for nuanced understanding of people’s lives & to not make assumptions about them?
I’ll go first— I’ve chosen not to take insurance & operate a mostly full fee group practice with some sliding scale spots. What about you?
