On Friday, August 16, 2024, Laura Deal spoke about how the art of storytelling is essential to the survival and success of the human species. Sharing stories generates empathy and compassion, building bridges between people, which then creates action. From the creativity of the craft to the connection between a storyteller and an audience, Laura Deal shared the reasons this art form is so essential to the human experience.

Laura is a storyteller with a wide-ranging repertoire. She volunteers with Spellbinders, telling folktales to school children, and her professional storytelling career has brought her to festivals across the United States, in person and online. Recordings of her work have appeared in various podcasts and radio shows dedicated to storytelling. She is the 2024 recipient of the J.J. Reneaux Emerging Artist Award, and in 2022 combined her expertise as a historian with her storytelling to create a living history presentation of Marion Woodman. She holds a Ph.D. in the History of England from CU Boulder
