I'm giving you my recommendation on the Nikon 50mm 1.8G vs 50mm 1.8D vs 1.4G vs 1.4D lenses.
I have used all those lenses for more than six years on many of my Nikon DSLR cameras, I think I can easily recommend those lenses to those who are not yet determined what lens to buy.

Read this it's important.
The Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.8G and the Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.4G can autofocus with Nikon D3000 - D3500 and D5000 - D5600 and many other modern Nikon DSLR cameras.

The Nikon 50mm AF 1.8D and the 50mm AF 1.4D can NOT autofocus with Nikon D3000 - D3500 and D5000 - D5600 cameras

Nikon AF lenses can autofocus with all Nikon cameras that have a built-in autofocus motor.

My Recommendation.
Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.8G
The Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.8G is for multi-purpose photography and the best choice, in my opinion,
So many people have the Nikon D3000 - D3500 and D5000 - D5300 cameras and this lens can autofocus with those cameras.
This lens is very sharp.
And if you move into the Nikon Z system later, you will have full support with the FTZ mount adapter.

Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.4G
The Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.4G is for professional photographers.
This lens has nine aperture blades and a much longer focus throw.
The Nikon 50mm 1.4G lens is very sharp from f/2.2 and down.
I have always found this lens to nail autofocus faster and better than the other Nikon 50mm, just a little bit though.

Nikon 50mm AF 1.8D
The Nikon 50mm AF 1.8D is for multi-purpose photography.
The Nikon 50mm 1.8D lens is especially good for long exposure @ f/8 - f/11 This lens produces a beautiful starburst.
This lens is also good for still life photography because of Distortion of 0.1%.
This lens can flare when pointed to bright light.

Nikon 50mm AF 1.4D
The Nikon 50mm AF 1.4D would be my choice for shooting video in low light @ f/2 and down.
This lens is unusable wide open @ f/1.4 in my opinion.

---------------------------------------------Nikon 50mm f/1.2 AIS Review-----------------------------------------

Without a doubt, this is a very special lens that has character.
when you hold this lens you can feel the build quality it's fantastic

I have owned my Nikon f/1.2 AIS lens for six years and it's still my favorite lens for shooting creative fun pictures, I don't use this lens for a professional photo assignment mainly because of manual focus, but for everything else, this is my favorite lens.
Here are some tech specs.
Manual focus lens.

Diaphragm Blades 9.
Lens elements 7.
Lens groups 6.
Maximum aperture f/1.2.
Minimum aperture f/16.
Nikon F - Mount Lens.
Focal Length 50mm.
FX - DX-format 35mm.
Maximum angle of view FX-format 46°
Minimum focus distance 1.7 ft.
Filter size 52mm.
Approx. Dimensions (Diameter x Length)2.7 in. (686 mm) x 1.9 in. (48.3 mm)
Approx. Weight12.7 oz. (359 g).

This is a manual focus lens with a very nice - smooth rotation on the focusing ring from the closest focus to the infinity.

Vignetting Wide Open f/1.2 and Bokeh.
The lens has a lot of vignetting Wide open, but it can look good in some cases and is one of the lens charms,

When I stop the lens down to f/2 the vignetting almost disappears you can still see some vignetting in the corners, and this lens becomes very sharp with great bokeh.
