External building lightshelves can be difficult to reach and hard to maintain. So, why not make it easy with an automated cleaning robot.

In this demonstration video, where the lightshelf is simulated with a row of tables, we show how an iRobot Braava 300, which uses a wet soft cloth that does not scratch the reflective lightshelf surface, effectively and swiftly cleans the entire 'lightshelf' surface and automatically returns to its starting position.

For use in an actual building, the following criteria must be adequately addressed:

1) Safety. Make sure that the iRobot cannot fall off the lightshelf by including a physical barrier, for example, suspending a metal wire along the edge of the lightshelf

2) Make sure the lightshelf can take the load of the iRobot, in this case, about 3 kg

3) Should the robot not return to its starting point, make sure that the robot can be retrieved, for example, through openable windows above the lightshelf.

4) This robot is not rain-proof, so ensure it is operated only when not raining and/or ensure that the starting point, to which the robot will automatically return, is a protected place from the rain, for example, by building a small 'garage'
