Black Space Matters: Allison Hurst of Legacy Farm

Описание к видео Black Space Matters: Allison Hurst of Legacy Farm

Episode 3 of the second season of Black Space Matters features Allison Hurst of Legacy Farm (https://www.legacyfarmrva.org/) in the Richmond, Virginia neighborhood of Church Hill. Series host Duron Chavis talks to Hurst about empowering young people to cultivate crops and the joys and challenges of sustaining an urban farm in the middle of Richmond’s East End community.

Legacy Farm began as an urban farming project through Church Hill Activities & Tutoring (CHAT)’s Workforce Development Program. Since 2012, it has blossomed into a community of young BIPOC farmers, embodying their role as stewards of the land and committed to sowing seeds of justice as they seek reciprocity, restoration, and unity in Richmond’s East End.

In this season of the ICA’s video series Black Space Matters, food justice advocate Duron Chavis goes on location to Black-led farms and greenspaces around the RVA region to discuss land ownership, sustainable agriculture practices, climate change, and other pressing issues. Over the course of five episodes (released every Friday), Chavis and series guests explore themes of collaboration, environmental racism, and the importance of Black space.
