A review of the 2019 Master Grade Re-GZ Custom (Refined Gundam Zeta Custom) with comparisons to the original 2001 Master Grade Re-GZ.
This was gonna be like 15 minutes long, but I just love rambling about old school Gunpla, so...
Anyway, I've still basically made 1 video every month or two, and actually have 2 videos ready to upload. They're a little different though, being reviews of 'figures' instead of Gunpla, so figured I'd hold on to those and upload a more standard review first. I'll upload something once every ~2 weeks through September and early October.

Time for - Production Notes -
This was made almost entirely after the next 3 videos, so I managed to shake off some more rust before getting started on this one.
Shot almost all the footage first. Turned out pretty solid in my opinion. Though the slider shots were still rough. Can't get them lined up properly, and each one is framed a little different. Very annoying. Actually had to zoom each shot in ~1-2% to manually reframe them so they transition better. I really think it's my slider being too weak to hold the RF 100mm lens. Need to find a cage or something that can provide a better center of gravity.
I overshot a lot, but still managed to miss plenty of shots. Always happens, but it goes to show how important having the script done before shooting can be. Still, it was enough that I only got a single set up for the slider shots. Usually, I like a full shot, and a close up, but here I just went with a shot somewhere in the middle.
Color temperature on the articulation sections is a little off. Not sure why. Part of me thinks it's actually alright but the transition from the colorful background to the flat shot of the black tarp is just jarring.
I actually walked through the transformation in this one. Usually, I just awkwardly cut to it being done, but thought since I was going for a longer video anyway, might as well include it.
Script was massively long. I kinda like the ASMR quality of these videos, so I'm going for longer and longer videos. It made recording audio terrible though. I've never liked recording audio, so making longer videos is kind of a drain on me with it's audio. Part of me thinks I just need to outsource the audio editing at least.
I forgot about the ankle movement in the articulation section lol. Ah well, it's the same as on the original MG Re-GZ, so it whatever~
For audio, I tried leaving in additional takes of lines. Then when I started editing, I found I had 2-3 versions of many sections and could choose whichever fit the footage the best. Very useful, but it made recording the audio a nightmare, with the original recording being an hour long, the edited (with additional takes) being ~35 minutes, and finally this final cut being close to 25. Still some awkward cuts. Need to just get better at reading from scripts.
I REALLY lowered the background music here. This is a test, to see just how much I really need background audio. I really want to just cut it completely. I mean I like the song, but I also really like the borderline ASMR quality of just a dude talking about something he enjoys. Buddy of mine said these are like Steve1989MREInfo videos, and it clicked that that's the feel I want. So yeah, this is gonna be a little test to see if people really miss or care about the background music. If not, I could see just removing it entirely in the next video.
Editing was about average. Got a lock on the audio by choosing the best takes, then worked on a picture lock with all the footage I had, filled in the gaps with additional footage, and lastly added all the panning and inserts. Pretty straightforward and didn't really try anything new here. Color filter is even the same as the GP01 video with only minor tweaks.
I noticed I didn't even use a lot of the better looking shots. Just never really chose them. It was weird, but I would've liked to use more arial shots and more slider shots. Far too many standing shots here, especially for a kit with wings.
Kinda phoned in the thumbnail. I'm not making Photoshop title cards any more as they were way too time consuming, so kinda just had to choose a cool shot and hope for the best. I tried using the '2001 vs 2019' angle, though this really isn't a 'VS' video. Couldn't think of anything else, so whatever. Can always change it later. Can't think of a good title either. "2001 in 2019" or "2001 VS 2019." Eh, whatever lol.
Been on a weird kick with music. No cohesive theme. Anyway, here's a few songs I had on repeat while working on this:
• Hearsay - Alexander O'Neal
• Smooth
