The annual Pandharpur Yatra to the famous Vithoba Temple at Pandharpur in Maharashtra is also famous as Pandharpur wari or ekadashi pandharpur wari and pandharpur ashadi ekadashi wari. Every year on the 11th day of the bright moon in the month of Aashaad many devotees reach the temple town of Pandharpur, to have a glimpse of Lord Vitthal. In 2019 Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi from Dehu, Pune will start on 24th June 2019 and Sant Dnyaneshwar Palkhi from Alandi began 25th June 2019. Palkhi Yatra 2019 will end at Pandharpur on Ashadi Ekadashi.

Origins of this Wari Tradition (Wari History):
According to one record, Sant Dnyaneshwar’s Father, Vitthalpant used to go to Pandharpur in the month of Ashadha and Kartik prior to the 14th century. Whereas another record says that Sant Dnyaneshwar in the 13th century and Sant Tukaram in the 17th century started going to Pandharpur by walking to reach their beloved God Vitthal.

However, It was Narayan Maharaj, son of Sant Tukaram who started the tradition of carrying the paduka’s of the Saints, in 1685.

In the 1820s, the pilgrimage went through many changes by the descendants of Tukaram and Haibatrav baba Arphalkar, A devotee of Dnyaneshwar and a courtier of the Princely state of Gwalior kingdom.

Wari has gone through many changes from 700 or 800 years and today it is world famous for an admirable model of Management every year which is praisable by everyone.
