A year ago, the Chuckegg creek wildfire evacuated tens of thousands of people from their homes, with 1,200 firefighters working day and night to contain the fire.

To all our firefighters, municipal leaders, and officials who helped protect communities and save lives: thank you.

Northern Alberta is tough and resilient, but the memory of last year's events will still be difficult for many.

This year, Alberta Wildfire officials are preparing for a different kind of fire season, where we won't be able to fly-in firefighting support from other places due to COVID-19.

We are training extra firefighters, should they be needed, but the best and most effective course of action is to stop the fires before they happen.

We're urging all Albertans to be extra cautious and help us prevent wildfires during this high-risk time.
