Most of India’s tribal communities live in and around forests. When a tribal village's population increases and cultivable land becomes scarce, some families move deeper into the forest in search of fertile soil and accessible drinking water. This marks the beginning of a new settlement.

However, such a settlement is not officially considered a full-fledged village until it receives recognition not just from the tribal community, but also from the village deities and ancestral spirits. The village gains its rightful identity only after this sacred and social sanction.

Aamathola in Bastar is one such village. In June 2025, it was formally acknowledged through a traditional religious and social ceremony. For the first time in history, the process of marking the territorial boundaries of a forest-based tribal village and its recognition by both the community and its deities was documented on record. Main Bhi Bharat became the first news channel to capture and broadcast this rare and profound moment.
