Grinling Gibbons - Master Carver and Sculptor

Описание к видео Grinling Gibbons - Master Carver and Sculptor

This is a historic woodworker tribute to Grinling Gibbons, the Master Carver of the 17th Century. With his work on Windsor Castle and St Pauls Cathedral, most feel that he was the finest wood carver in England. Grinling Gibbons has been called the genius of British woodwork.

Carvers should study his techniques. Just try to achieve his lightness and grace. Today, his baroque garlands and peapods seem too excessive. But there are only one or two carvers alive today could or would attempt to reproduce his work.

Would recommend to find more about Grinling Gibbons, you purchase the two books by the late David Easterly who successfully reproduced some of Gibbons carvings destroyed in a fire. Gibbon's work is admired by the International Wood Carvers Association.
