In today's video I'm off to the BMC & BL Day 2025 (British Motor Corporation & British Leyland Day to give it its full title) held in the grounds of the British Motor Museum at Gaydon in Warwickshire.
As in '24 the turnout of classic British cars was excellent, no doubt buoyed by fantastic weather, and a huge number of vehicles from the BMC, BLMC, BL and the later Austin Rover/Rover Group eras made their way over, as did a few pre-BMC cars built by manufacturers that would later be absorbed into the sprawling BMC/BL combine.
An added attraction this year was a 70 year celebration of the BMC Competitions Department (later British Leyland Special Tuning), a display that was worth the visit all on its own. The sight of so many works-prepared cars (Mini Coopers, Austin-Healeys, Austin 1800s, MGBs, MGAs and more), plus a couple of the huge mobile training units/transporters, was really something very special indeed. The National Benzole liveried Austin K4 tanker was also a treat to see.
In addition there were many cars that were once familiar sights on British roads, including example(s) of Austin/Morris/Leyland Princess, 1800, Austin 3 Litre, Triumph 2000/2500, TR7, TR6, Spitfire, GT6, Austin Allegro & Maxi, Leyland Sherpa, BMC J4, Austin Metropolitan, Morris Minor, Austin A35, Riley RM and 1.5, Wolseley 6/90, 4/44, 15/50, 16/60, lots of wonderful Farina saloons (Austin A55 Cambridge, Morris Oxford, Wolseley 6/110, Austin Westminster Countryman etc), and even a couple of A40 Farinas materialised.
If you're a fan of BMC cars, or the later offerings of British Leyland in the 1970s through to the Austin Rover/Rover Group times, I highly recommend this annual event at BMM Gaydon.
