Refusing To Split The Ashes

The plaintiff and the defendant had a son who passed away a few months ago. After he was cremated, the funeral home divided his ashes into separate urns for them. The plaintiff claims the defendant took both urns and refuses to give him his half of the ashes; he is suing for their return. The defendant says the plaintiff wasn’t even in their son’s life until he was 13, and was a terrible influence. The defendant claims the law says the ashes are the property of the parent who had 100 percent custody. The defendant does not want the plaintiff to have the ashes, as she fears he would something unethical and illegal with them. She is countersuing for the balance of a GoFundMe account.
