The best kinds of vehicle refreshes are those that take something we already like and tweak it ever so slightly with updates driven by customer feedback. That’s very much the case with the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5, where a collection of minor changes add up to a satisfying end result.

West Coast Bureau Chief Conner Golden was on hand for the first drive of the touched-up Ioniq 5, and he came away (predictably) impressed. Stuff like standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto complemented a selection of hard buttons and larger screens, while exterior flair improves with a new wheel design and slightly restyled front fascia.

This was also our first crack at the new off-road-oriented XRT trim, an SUV Golden had the opportunity to slide through some Mojave sand. But is this fresh trim and the wider tweaks enough to consider upgrading? Watch the video to find out.
