🌸 A 19-Year-Old Japanese Wisteria Beauty 🌸

In this video, I’m sharing one of my absolute favorite plants—my Japanese wisteria, which gracefully wraps almost all the way around my house. This incredible vine has been with me for nearly 20 years, and believe it or not, I only watered it during its first 6 months. Since then, it has flourished completely on its own here in zone 9, Northern California (technically middle!)

✨ About Japanese Wisteria (Wisteria floribunda):

Native to Japan, it’s known for its stunning, cascading clusters of fragrant purple flowers.

Flower clusters can grow over 12–18 inches long, often blooming in late spring to early summer.

It’s a vigorous climber, easily reaching 30 feet or more, and loves to twine clockwise around trellises, fences, and even homes.

A mature plant like mine can live for decades, sometimes even a century!

🌱 Care Tips for Wisteria:

Watering: Needs regular watering only when young. Once established, it’s drought-tolerant (my 20-year-old vine thrives without extra water!).

Pruning: Key to keeping it in shape—prune twice a year (summer and winter) to encourage flowers and control growth.

Sunlight: Full sun (at least 6 hours daily) is best for maximum blooms.

Support: Provide a sturdy structure—it’s powerful and heavy as it matures.

This wisteria has become a living part of my home, offering shade, beauty, and breathtaking blooms each year. 💜
