‘호숫가에서 영(靈)이 깃든 신비감에 눈을 반짝였다. 그러나 멀리서 호수 주위를 에워싸고 있었던 박제된 사슴들은 진귀한 금은보화의 황홀했던 숲속 시간을 잠시 얼어붙게 하였다. 박제된 그 사슴 두상들은 내게 열쇠를 주지 않은 채 굳게 입을 다물었다.’

몇 년 전 꾸었던 이 꿈은 내 안에서 메아리치며 문득문득 함께 시간을 보내었다. 풍경 너머의 풍경 같았다. 사슴의 메시지는 무엇이었을까. 움직임은 시간이지만 정적은 영원이라고 조셉캠벨은 말하였다. 우리 삶에서 이것을 깨닫는다는 것은 곧 영원을 체험하는 것이라고, 일시적 체험에서 그 일시적 체험이 지닌 영원한 측면을 체험하는 것이야말로 신화 체험이라고 말이다. 조셉캠벨의 말에서 시간의 침묵이란 제목을 생각하였던 이 작품은 미지의 곳에서 말을 걸어온 꿈 속 사슴의 육화한 소리 그 비밀의 문을 더듬는 여정이었다. ‘모든 선이 만나는 곳에는 빛나는 한 점이 있다’고 한 인디언 소년이 말하였다.(2012)

Artist Note:
'At the lakeside, my eyes sparkled with a sense of mystery imbued with a spirit. However, the taxidermied deer encircling the lake from afar momentarily froze the enchanted, golden, and silver moments of the forest. The heads of these taxidermied deer remained tight-lipped, withholding the key from me.'

This dream I had a few years ago echoed within me, lingering from time to time. It felt like a landscape beyond the landscape. What was the deer's message? Joseph Campbell said that while movement is time, stillness is eternity. To realize this in our lives is to experience eternity, and experiencing the eternal aspect of a temporary moment is a mythical experience. Inspired by Campbell's words, this artwork titled "The Silence of Time" became a journey tracing the incarnate sound of the dream deer speaking from an unknown place. An Indian boy once said, "At the point where all lines meet, there is a shining dot." (2012)
