Smokey and the Bandit Tour: 2nd annual. Revisiting the Jonesboro Filming locations

Our 2nd annual Smokey and the Bandit tour, this time we bring a few friends from Wicked Jeeps along

We focus on the Jonesboro locations this year. We’ve added in a few new stops so it’s not the same as last year.

To make the video easier to follow, this year all the film locations are in the order they appear in the movie. We did the tour in the simplest point a to point b path that we could, but you’ll see it edited into chronological order or the film. The first scene in Jonesboro is Snowman’s house less than 10 minutes into the movie. Most of the Jonesboro scenes are in the First half of the movie.

Other locations that we didn’t visits this year include Riverdale, which we visited last year. Other places that we haven’t been yet but will see in future videos are Mcdonough, Helen, Ga 400 near cumming.

Still several people that want to go do this trip so it may be something that gets repeated for several years. Also, we may try to visit the Helen and McDonough filming locations in the future. There we’ll do some more then and now style filming. Hopefully we can even team up and do the snowman’s run one day too.

Fun notes, the movie was filmed in 1976. The Transam is a 1976 built to look like a 1977. Most of the portions filmed in Jonesboro are all in the beginning of the film. The Train station in downtown Texarkana is actually in Jonesboro Ga, it’s the same train station on the album cover of Lynyrd Skynyrds album pronounced leh-nerd Skin-nerd. Burt renyolds lived in Georgia at the time of this movie. The bandit was originally going to be jerry reed. If you listen closely in the beginning of the film, the song is West Bound and down until they reach Texarkana, on the way back it’s East bound and down
