Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera is facing criticism from civil society organizations and opposition groups who allege his failure to deliver on campaign promises and are calling for his resignation.

VOA’s Peter Clottey recently sat down with Chakwera during his recent visit to New York for the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The two discussed demands for Chakwera’s resignation, attempts by Malawian authorities to fight corruption and the impact of Cyclone Freddy which reportedly claimed at least 1,000 lives in the southern African nation.
