'Operation Epic Fury' is the code name for the ongoing strikes launched by the United States of America and Israel against Iran on Saturday. The attack comes just days after US President Donald Trump gave a 10-day ultimatum to Iran to finalize the nuclear deal.

President Donald Trump announced the operation against Iran, claiming his goal is to defend American people and eliminate imminent threats from the Iranian regime. The Pentagon officially called the operation ‘Operation Epic Fury.' Meanwhile, Israel called its part 'Operation Lion's Roar.'

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the architect of the country's anti-US stance, was killed in the joint military operation carried out by the United States and Israel, Iranian state media confirmed early Sunday. This marks a dramatic escalation in tensions across the Middle East. Iran state television began broadcasting Quranic recitations following the confirmation. Iran also declared 40 days of public mourning and announced a seven-day national holiday.

The US military has released a video showing the exact moment a US torpedo hit the Iranian warship Iris Dena off the coast of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean. Iris Dena sank after the attack, which ended up killing at least 87 sailors on board.

Iris Dena was returning from India after participating in the 2026 International Fleet Review when it was attacked by the US torpedo. The fleet review was held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The attack by a US military submarine took place over 300 km from Kanyakumari. The Sri Lanka Navy launched an immediate rescue operation after the warship was attacked. As many as 32 individuals have been rescued till now.

Amid the ongoing Israel-US conflict with Iran, concerns over how this would impact the world's seaborne oil trade flows and liquified natural gas supply that passes through the Strait of Hormuz have further escalated.

The Strait of Hormuz, which lies between Oman and Iran, is considered a vital international waterway for global shipping activities. The United Arab Emirates also lies close to this shipping route. If the Strait of Hormuz were to be blocked, global oil and gas supplies would be severely disrupted; crude oil prices are expected to further surge; shipping insurance costs would increase, and Asian nations heavily reliant on energy imports would be under pressure.

Analysts noted that every USD 1 increase in crude raises India's annual import bill by approximately USD 2 billion. route.
