How to Remove and Clean a Throttle Body on an Astra H/MK5

This will help a ROUGH IDLE, ROUGH ACCELERATION, HESITATION, and will also INCREASE FUEL EFFICIENCY.

I used a standard brake cleaner which you can get from any car or hardware store. My airbox was easy to pull off due to not having anything properly bolted in (whoops my bad i know, because racecar), but if yours is bolted in; it is only a couple of Torx screws and a jubilee clip connecting it to the throttle body.

Once the airbox is removed; is it only 4 bolts holding the throttle body onto the engine, these can be taken off using a simple 7mm socket (these were very easy to come off for me).

Once the throttle body is loose; be CAREFUL not to lose the gasket between (you will need this!). so CAREFULLY lift the gasket and place somewhere safe.

The hose at the back to the left of the throttle body is an oil line, this can just be pulled off (the engine should be off at this point so there shouldn't be any oil pressure), the hose to the left is a coolant return line to the reservoir (again the engine is off and it is at the same height of the reservoir so it shouldnt leak much coolant) this is held onto the throttle body by a spring clamp (i use a pair of pliers to open them and then move then to the side).

This left one hose attached to the throttle body; and i found this impossible to get off (so i decided to clean it with it still attached).

I placed a peice of cardboard on top of the engine to stop the cleaner getting all over the engine bay. I sprayed the throttle body and the gasket heavily and scrubbed with a toothbrush (make sure to get inside all the nooks and crannies), then dried off using paper towels.

Reverse the removal (put it back on) and DONE!

This did help the car; unfortunately it did not eliminate my random misfiring problem, but the search continues!
